Have you bought an apartment at Park Albatros — or are you considering it? One of the first practical questions you'll face is the internet. Wi-Fi in a holiday apartment feels like a given — until a work call drops mid-sentence or the children's series buffers at exactly the wrong moment.

Spain has dozens of internet providers, from small regional operators to global players. Here we look at what actually makes sense for Park Albatros in Golf del Sur: the new community fibre system or one of the five main Spanish providers.

Big news: the community network is changing

Park Albatros is upgrading its local internet infrastructure. TV Canarias is installing fibre optic cable across all blocks — blocks 9, 10 and 11 are already complete, with the rest scheduled to follow throughout the year.

The old ADSL community internet is being switched off. If you're in blocks 9–14, this may already affect you.

New system conditions:

  • One-off setup fee: €128.40 — includes the first year of service and full warranty on the wi-fi router
  • From the second year: €107 per year (€8.92 per month)
  • Payment by cash or card after installation, or by bank transfer in advance

For more information or to arrange a connection, contact TV Canarias directly — David, tel. 0034-601 42 92 15, email david@tv-canarias.com. You can also speak with Yvonne at the owners' community office next to the children's playground — first half of the month 8:00–12:00, second half 12:00–16:00.

When 40–50 Mbps isn't enough — external options

If you work from home, spend extended periods at the resort, or work in IT, the community connection may not be sufficient. Here are the realistic alternatives.

Movistar — reliability and fast installation

Movistar owns its physical infrastructure across Spain — no rented networks, its own cables throughout. In practice this means installation within 48 hours and more responsive support when things go wrong. Mine went in the same day I called.

Current fibre-only tariffs (May 2026):

  • 300 Mbps: €19.90/month year one (then €30)
  • 600 Mbps: €30/month — price holds after year one
  • 1 Gbps: €45/month

If you spend more time on the internet than in the waves at El Médano, 600 Mbps at €30 is the sensible choice — more than enough for work and entertainment without paying for a gigabit you simply won't use in an apartment.

Worth noting: Movistar, Vodafone and Orange all increase prices after year one — by an average of 4% in 2026.

DIGI — stable price, no surprises

DIGI runs on Movistar's infrastructure, so signal quality is effectively the same. The difference is price and predictability. If you want 1 Gbps at €20 per month with no annual increases, it's difficult to find better value on the market.

Current fibre-only tariffs (May 2026):

  • 300 Mbps: ~€10/month
  • 1 Gbps: ~€20/month

No price increases confirmed for 2026. If same-day installation isn't a priority, DIGI is a compelling option.

Pepephone — the quiet favourite

Pepephone rarely gets the attention it deserves. It consistently ranks among Spain's highest-rated providers for customer satisfaction, runs on MásMóvil and Yoigo networks, and carries Orange and Movistar as backup.

Current fibre-only tariffs (May 2026):

  • 300 Mbps: €23/month
  • 600 Mbps: €23–25/month
  • No commitment — leave any time, no penalty
  • Installation and router at no extra cost
  • Prices don't change after year one

For owners who value straightforward pricing and flexibility, Pepephone is well worth considering.

Vodafone and Orange — strong opening, then negotiate

Both follow the same approach — competitive introductory rates of €15–20 per month, followed by automatic increases to €30–35 after year one. It's simply how the Spanish telecoms market works. But it can be managed.

The trick that works with Movistar, Vodafone and Orange

Two months before your first year ends, send your provider a message:

"Buenos días, mi contrato termina en [date]. He visto que el precio subirá. ¿Pueden ofrecerme una renovación con el precio actual?"

In most cases they'll either hold your current rate or offer a new discounted package. Spanish telecoms companies would rather keep you at the existing price than lose you to DIGI or Pepephone.

Quick comparison

  • Community (TV Canarias): 40–50 Mbps, €8.92/month, no price increase, no contract
  • DIGI 300 Mbps: ~€10/month, no increase, 3 months
  • DIGI 1 Gbps: ~€20/month, no increase, 3 months
  • Pepephone 300 Mbps: €23/month, no increase, none
  • Pepephone 600 Mbps: €23–25/month, no increase, none
  • Movistar 300 Mbps: €19.90 → €30, increases, 3 months
  • Movistar 600 Mbps: €30/month, no increase, 3 months
  • Vodafone 300 Mbps: €15–20 → €30–35, increases, yes
  • Orange 300 Mbps: €15–20 → €30–35, increases, yes

What I recommend

Casual use — Netflix, browsing, two devices: Community system TV Canarias — €128.40 setup including year one, then €107 per year.

Working from home, multiple active users: Movistar, DIGI, Vodafone or Orange.

Stable price, no commitment: Pepephone — and you can get back to more important things. Like whether to have your morning coffee by the pool or on the terrace.

FAQ

Is the new internet available in all blocks?
Not yet — TV Canarias has completed blocks 9, 10 and 11. The remaining blocks follow throughout the year. For current status, speak with Yvonne at the community office.
What happens to the old community internet?
The old ADSL system is being switched off. If you're in blocks 9–14 and haven't yet requested a new connection, it's worth doing so soon.
Can I have both the community internet and my own provider?
In some cases yes, though it isn't always possible — running new cables through existing conduits can be difficult depending on the block. The TV Canarias community system is generally the recommended route.
Who installs fastest in Golf del Sur?
Movistar — they own the local infrastructure and typically install within 48 hours, sometimes the same day.
Who has the cheapest 1 Gbps?
DIGI — approximately €20 per month with no annual price increases, running on the same network as Movistar.
